It’s Time To Explore Virtual Reality Careers!

After Facebook purchased Oculus, the lightbulb went off in my head... it was time to start looking into virtual reality careers. Although I had no experience in augmented or virtual reality concepts, I soon discovered that it really didn't matter as long as I was willing to build up the skills needed for this growing industry. Of course, my first question was where to begin.  For others, the question might be, what is vr? Preparing for Virtual Reality Careers

The very first thing I did, was research virtual reality training. In my area of Dallas/Ft. Worth, I discovered EON Reality. Follow the topic on social media, attend webinars and conferences, and become active in online communities such as Polycount for 3D and Invision Blog for UX/UI. If you want to get your foot in the door, look into non-developer jobs within vr companies such as quality assurance, project management, or a business analyst. These are great positions to start with as you learn more about VR.

What Are VR Companies Looking For?

  • Like any forward moving company, hiring managers are looking for individuals who are goal-getters. They want people who are passionate about the technology. Spend time researching latest trends and developing your skills so you'll be able to speak knowledgeably about related subjects.
  • Do you have an online portfolio? If not, start building one today because companies will want to see it! The work you showcase doesn't have to be related to a company project. Anything that can display your abilities is acceptable even if it's from a hobby. The point of the portfolio is to prove you can do the work.
